The Royal Tenenbaums

The Royal Tenenbaums was a film made in 2001 and was about the main character Royal Tenenbaum who became too caught up in his is own work which destroyed his family life. It started off explaining the backgrounds of the three children in the family who were Chas, Margot, and Richie. Each child in the family became succesful at a young age. Chas started buying real estate in his early teens while Margot wrote plays and received a grant of $50,000 in the ninth grade. Richie also was a junior champion tennis player and later won the U.S Nationals three years in a row.

Etheline Tenenbaum had seperated from her husband Royal because of his lack of love for the family. They had been seperated for a while and Royal has'nt been part of the family at all. Chas had sewed Royal because he was apparently steeling money from bonds and the business he started. He had been living in a hotel for twenty two years now while the family moved on. Each one of the children had grown up as adults and and started new lives but some how all found there way back to living at the home they grew up in. While Etheline found another man Richie had brought his father Royal back to the house to stay. Royal had lied to the family and said that he was going to die in six weeks so that he would get some simpathy from the family especially Etheline. The family later found out that he had been lying about his illness and that he was just doing it to become closer with the family. After Royal had been with the family and actually interacted for the six weeks he stayed the rest of the family began to care for him and grew a heart for there father.

This film focuses mainly on the main character Royal (Gene Hackman) who is shown as a father that doesn't have much care for his family rather then his job. This film does a great job showing the transfermation of Royals attitude throughout the movie. In the beginning this movie gives particular scenes that show how Royal doesnt even know much about his own children, but then changes his attitude towards his family showing he cares in the end.
